European Commission approves Talk Talk application

The Minister for Training and Skills, Ciaran Cannon, TD, welcomed the decision of the European Commission to approve his Department’s application for the former Talk Talk workers for co-financing of various initiatives under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. He said:

“This is an important first step in the approval process and while we must await the deliberations of the European Parliament and Council of Ministers later in the year, this augers well for a positive outcome to my Department’s application. Last Monday, I met with representatives of Talk Talk Redundant Workers’ Association and re-affirmed my commitment to this programme. Since I announced the application last February, I am heartened that almost half of those affected have made enquiries to explore their options for the future”

He continued:

“The next key step is to encourage those making enquiries to avail of the wide range of re-skilling and enterprise services available which are designed to position them for new employment opportunities. I would also urge those who not made contact with the EGF Co-ordination Unit in Waterford to do so.”
