EGF Response

The EGF is an EU fund to assist Member States to support workers made redundant, and self-employed people whose activity has ceased, as a result of changes in world trade due to globalisation or a global financial and economic crisis.

Member State applications for EGF support for workers made redundant due to the economic impact of COVID-19 may be considered by the European Commission where the series of measures introduced by the Government to support businesses to retain jobs do not succeed in particular instances. The latest information on how Ireland is responding to COVID-19 can be found here.

In response to the economic impact of COVID-19, the Commission proposes reinforce the EGF by increasing the annual funding available to €386 million from 2021 onwards. Further details are available here
